Kalani Sitake is a former American football player and current head coach of the Brigham Young University (BYU) football team. He was born on October 26, 1975 in Nukuʻalofa, Tonga. Sitake played college football at BYU as a fullback and defensive lineman from 1994 to 1998.
After his playing career, Sitake began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Eastern Arizona College in 2001. He then went on to hold various coaching positions at Southern Utah University, University of Idaho, and University of Utah before becoming an assistant coach at Oregon State University. In 2015, Sitake was hired as the head coach of the BYU football team, making him the first Tongan head coach of a Division I FBS program.
Sitake has been praised for his leadership and character both on and off the field. He has a reputation for fostering a positive team culture and prioritizing the personal development of his players. Under his guidance, the BYU football team has had several successful seasons, including bowl game appearances and impressive wins against top-ranked opponents.
